DEXPLORE Project Highlights Early Scientific Contributions at Lithosphere 2024 Symposium

Mar 14, 2025 | Events

Espoo, Finland – November 14, 2024 – The DEXPLORE project, funded under the Horizon Europe programme, has made a strong early impact with the presentation of key research findings at the Lithosphere 2024 Symposium, held from November 12–14 at the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) in collaboration with the University of Helsinki.

Just two months into its implementation, DEXPLORE is already delivering insights aligned with its mission to advance the exploration of deep-seated Critical Raw Materials (CRM) in Europe. Project partner Tallinn University of Technology (TALTECH) showcased two presentations that contribute to the project's overarching goals:

  • Investigation of CRM potential of the Estonian basement: A presentation outlining new findings on the geologic potential of Estonia’s deep crustal structures.
  • Geological correlations in Eastern Fennoscandia: A scientific inquiry examining whether the Estonian Alutaguse Section aligns more closely with Finland’s Southern Svecofennian terranes or Sweden’s Bergslagen region.

These early results reflect DEXPLORE’s strategic approach to fostering collaboration among European research institutions and leveraging advanced geological methods to map and assess CRM resources at depth.

“The Lithosphere 2024 Symposium provided an excellent platform to present DEXPLORE’s emerging contributions to the geoscience community,” said Sophie Graul and Juan David Solano from TalTech team.

Further details on the presentations can be accessed through ResearchGate:

DEXPLORE will continue to build momentum as it explores innovative approaches to securing sustainable access to Europe’s critical raw materials, contributing directly to EU strategic autonomy and green transition goals.
