DEXPLORE Joins Successful Workshop to Strengthen Regional Cooperation in Sustainable Mining – S3P

Seville, Spain – January 24, 2025 – As part of its commitment to advancing responsible mineral exploration and fostering strategic partnerships across Europe, the DEXPLORE Project took part in the workshop “Mining Industry and Regional Government Cooperation – Opportunities for Fostering Innovation and Building Development”, held on January 23, 2025, in Seville.

The workshop was co-organized by the TERRAVISION EU Project and the Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC), and it marked a key moment for collaboration between industry, EU-funded research projects, and public institutions in the raw materials sector.

DEXPLORE contributed to the event by presenting its ongoing work and partnerships in Andalusia, particularly its cooperation with ATALAYA Mining as part of the project's pilot program. This pilot demonstrates the project's focus on aligning technological innovation with regional development strategies, supporting Europe's Critical Raw Materials (CRM) ambitions through local collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

Successful Workshop on Mining Industry & Regional Government Cooperation

The event gathered a diverse set of stakeholders, including:

  • Leading mining companies
  • Representatives from nine EU-funded R&D projects, including DEXPLORE
  • Officials from the Directorate of Mines of the Regional Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía)
  • Members of the Smart Specialisation Platform (S3P) Mining Regions Partnership

These discussions were instrumental in identifying opportunities to enhance innovation, share best practices, and ensure effective implementation of the EU Critical Raw Materials Act at the regional level.

DEXPLORE extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Manuel Vázquez Mora, Technical Advisor for Mining at the Directorate-General for Industry, Energy and Mines of the Junta de Andalucía, for his valuable insights and support.

The project also acknowledges the fruitful exchange with peer initiatives, including S34I, GAIA-TSF, PERMANET, MaDiTraCe, WIDEX, i4-GREEN, and Li4LIFE, whose shared commitment to sustainable mining continues to strengthen Europe’s raw materials ecosystem.

“This workshop was a key step toward building lasting partnerships between public authorities, innovation-driven projects, and the private sector. It reinforces our collective role in delivering the EU’s green and digital transformation,” said Catalina Hernandez Moreno, DEXPLORE project coordinator – ISMC.
